    The only aquarium in Akita Prefecture, this giant aquarium is filled with 815 tons of water and holds 2000 fish of 40 different varieties. The sailfin sandfish of Oga city(?) is on display year-round, and Gota and Kurumi the polar bears are very popular, as are the penguins and seals.

    The flat red rocks of the beach in front of GAO were formed by lava flow from the volcano about 30 million years ago. The grey rocks that rise up from the ground are called dikes and were formed when magma flowed up through cracks from deep within the earth, hardening as it cooled. The Swiss Woman Memorial Stone honors the precious lives lost here in the tsunami following the Sea of Japan earthquake of 1983.
